Rajasthan
has the second largest land area amongst the Indian States. The
agricultural sector in the State has over 20 million hectares of
land under cultivation and Rajasthan currently is the largest
producer of some of the oil seeds and is the leading producer of
Soyabean, Barley, Pearl Millet, Maize, Seasamum, Wheat and Cotton,
as well as fruits and vegetables and a wide range of seed spices.
Many of the above produce have substantial export potential both out
of the state as well as out of the country.
However, due to
lack of adequate infrastructure as well as established markets and
coordination with the markets, there is a large amount of wastage.
In addition, value addition in most of the products takes place
outside the State. As a result, a major part of the benefits to the
producers of the State are not realized.
An Agricultural
Infrastructure Project for Rajasthan is intended to address the
above issues with an attempt to create infrastructure in a
comprehensive manner to maximize the utilization of the State
produce and thereby achieve the following:
- Bring new investments to the agricultural sector in the State
- Increase returns to the farmers and producers of the State
- Increase productivity by bringing in new technologies and
methodologies.
The project would start at the point of transfer of the produce
from the farmers in the State of Rajasthan, till export of the
processed commodity out of the State/Country. The project would
address a shelf of agricultural products from the geographical
locations where these are produced. The project has already been
completed and GoI has
